Special to the News

The fourth and final show of this year’s Performing Arts Series at South Jackson Civic Center is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

For the center’s final show in the series, folks will enjoy a performance by the “Alabama Blues Brothers” and a funky and fun art exhibit by Becky Shelton in the front reception room.

The Alabama Blues Brothers

The Alabama Blues Brothers

For over 13 years, brothers Jamey and Justin Crisler of Huntsville, Ala. have performed their Blues Brothers Tribute to over 2,000 audiences in 25 states with their backup seven-piece band.

For their upcoming performance, audiences can “jump back in time” to the performing comedy act of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd from the 1978 season of “Saturday Night Live.”  The iconic comedy sketch took on a life of its own that led to a Hollywood movie and worldwide tours in the early 1980s.

For the Crisler brothers, Jamey and Justin, a 1998 Halloween costume party invitation motivated them to dress up as the Blues Brothers. Although the party never happened, the brothers said they pursued the idea, got the musical act together, and the rest, the brothers said, is “history.”

“The Alabama Blues Brothers” say they also try to add “a bit of Alabama Southern humor” to each show while creating a family-friendly atmosphere.

“We do a family-friendly show.  Anybody of any age can come and enjoy the show and everybody likes The Blues Brothers,” added Justin Crisler.

Dislocated artist Becky Shelton

Texas gal Becky Shelton is a self-taught imaginative artist who loves to combine a variety of materials in her creations.

Shelton says for her creations, she saves newspapers, magazines, and found objects and incorporates them into her montage of layers and paint until it speaks to her as being “complete.”

For the upcoming Blues Brothers show, Shelton says the Mississippi Delta Blues Singers and the fathers of the blues genre inspired her.

For her first ever exhibit at the center, Shelton will present several interpretations of black folk art.

Now a resident of Tullahoma for more than a decade, Shelton has made a name for herself through her eclectic art and her work with the Antique Arts and Collectibles Mall, The Fly, and the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center.

She currently works from her studio, located at the Merchants at Cokers, located on Wilson Avenue in Tullahoma.

Shelton provides lessons to aspiring artist of all ages. Her work can also be seen and purchased at her Coker’s studio and around the area at well-known spots such as Fast Jack’s, Normandy River Café, Miller Grocery, Art Barn, Celtic Cup, and the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $25 for adults, and $15 for students.  For reservations, call 455-5321, or e-mail sojack@lighttube,net.  Check the website at www.southjackson.org.  Concessions and the Mitchell Museum will be open prior to the show and during intermission.  The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. South Jackson Civic Association is a recipient of a Partnership Support Grant provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Community 4.2 ‘Paranormal Parentage’ Preview Clip and Photos

Community-Paranormal-ParentageThursday’s (Feb. 14) episode of Community titled “Paranormal Parentage” was supposed to air last year as the show’s Halloween episode, but since the premier was pushed back, Human Beings will get have to settle with a Halloween episode on Valentine’s Day… or as NBC is calling it: Valloween!

As we all know, Community‘s halloween episodes have been nothing but epic. Season 1′s “Introduction to Statistics” had Jeff wooing Professor Slater while a drugged out Pierce barricaded himself in the study room only to be saved by Abed. Season 2′s “Epidemiology” had everyone at Greendale’s Annual Halloween Party get infected by tainted food. Season 3′ “Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps” had Britta determined to find out which person in the study group was a psychopath, but it was revealed that the only sane member in the group was Abed.

Other than having amazing Halloween-themed episode, Community has been known for their cast members having amazing costumes. In “Introduction to Statistics,” Britta was dressed as a squirrel, Troy as Eddie Murphy, Abed as Batman, Shirley as Harry Potter, Pierce as the Beastmaster, Chang as a matador and Jeff as a cowboy. In “Epidemiology,” Jeff dressed as David Beckham, Pierce as Captain Kirk, Dean Pelton as Lady Gaga, Abed as Alien, Troy as Lt. Ripley, Shirley as Cinderella/Miss Piggy, Annie as Little Red Riding Hood, Chang as Peggy Fleming and Britta as a dinosaur.

After last year’s episode being costume-less, “Paranormal Parentage” brings back the study group in great Halloween getups. Shirley is dressed a Princess Leia, Annie is the little girl from The Ring, Abed and Troy as Calvin and Hobbes, Jeff is a boxer and Dean Pelton possibly as Madonna.

What’s on the store of the gang for Halloween? While on their way to Vicki’s (Danielle Kaplowitz) Halloween costume party, the study group makes a detour to Pierce’s (Chevy Chase) mansion when they learn he accidentally locked himself in his panic room. As Pierce languishes behind locked doors, the group searches the dark and eerie house for the book that holds the code to the door. Along the way they encounter a few of the house’s secrets.

‘Community’: Who Is Moving in With Pierce?

Community Episodic Paranormal Parentage - H 2013

[Warning: Do not read if you have not watched Thursday's episode, "Paranormal Parentage."]

Why It Doesn’t Matter Whether You Like ‘Community’ — or Tons of Other NBC Shows‘Community’ Writers Spill Show Secrets in Reddit Chat‘Community’ Bosses Address Chevy Chase’s Exit, Post-Dan Harmon Changes and Why Neflix Reigns (QA)

In Greendale, it’s never too early to celebrate Halloween.

On Thursday’s Community, “Paranormal Parentage,” the gang drops by Pierce Hawthorne’s (Chevy Chase) mansion on their way to a Halloween costume party after discovering he accidentally locked himself in the panic room. While the group attempts to find Pierce, a “shadowy figure” is seen watching Pierce sleep. Their first thought? Pierce’s dead father Cornelius, prompting Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) to go through his own insecurities about his non-relationship with his dad.

As it’s revealed in the final minutes, that shadowy figure is Cornelius’ former assistant, Gilbert Lawson (Giancarlo Esposito), making a surprise return on the NBC comedy. “May I be of some assistance?” he asks, pushing up his glasses. This after Pierce pulls a fast one on the study group: the whole panic room/haunted house was a prank! Turns out, Gilbert has been living in the mansion — technically it’s his — paying off Pierce’s unpaid bills and fixing up the home for about six weeks. He’s been struggling to move on following Cornelius’ death.

In a touching moment, Pierce — roommate-less after Troy (Donald Glover) moved out — asks Gilbert to move in. In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Esposito — who filmed his appearance in one day — talks about his return to Community, what a Gilbert-Pierce roommate is most like and his favorite moment from the episode.

The Hollywood Reporter: When you got the call that you were coming back, how did you react and did you have any expectations? (The Revolution star first appeared in season three’s video game episode, “Digital Estate Planning.”)

Giancarlo Esposito: I got excited and a little bit apprehensive. It’s a very different way of working to do this kind of comedy than I’m used to, but I love this cast and the way they play off each other. Everything is a little bit avant garde and a little bit spontaneous. The reaction from the first one I did was so strong from so many viewers. They’re interesting and very different kind of fans.

THR: What different was the experience filming this episode compared to your first Community appearance?

Esposito: It was very different because at some point in time during filming, I didn’t have Chevy or the cast, I was isolated doing things on my own with a sort of haunted house feel. For some of the stuff, I was literally standing there looking at their photos on a green screen, which was pretty weird and very Halloween-esque. That was an interesting part of this. The first time I filmed [Community], it was a [huge] technology episode with the game, playing the game and then being inside the game. This one was quick and easy and to the point, and I certainly liked the more cultivated, connective, dramatic aspect that behind the loneliness of Pierce and the loneliness of Gilbert comes this pact that “We’ll move in together.” We both might be relieved of our loneliness and have a connection to each other that grows to be deeper and more fun.

THR: How would you describe Pierce and Gilbert’s living arrangement?

Esposito: I certainly like the idea of The Odd Couple coming back again. Certainly Pierce and Gilbert would be very, very odd together.

STORY: ‘Community’ Bosses on Chevy Chase, Post-Dan Harmon and Netflix

THR: The fact that Gilbert took Troy’s place was a fun twist.

Esposito: Yeah, you’re surprised by it. You’re not quite expecting it. I think it’s pretty terrific.

THR: Do you have a favorite moment from the episode?

Esposito: My favorite moment was the ending with Gilbert hugging Pierce and also the surprise that Gilbert is living in this house with him. It’s kind of a outrageous thought. When I open the door and they’re all there thinking “What!” The look on their faces were so, so exciting [to see].

THR: Pierce’s mansion is pretty crazy. Definitely not your typical home.

Esposito: Very different, very child-like. The indoor playground. I think some of us wish to have a house that could be as fun as that and as weird and strange.

Community airs at 8 p.m. Thursdays on NBC.

Community Paranormal Parentage Teaser Reveals Halloween Costumes And …

Community‘s current timeline is a little bit behind our reality’s, which means while we’re celebrating or ignoring Valentine’s Day this Thursday, Community will be celebrating Halloween. Or “Valloween,” according to the teaser for the episode. Check it out ahead to see what the Greendale study group (that doesn’t spend much time studying) is up to in “Paranormal Parentage.”

Last week, we shared some photos that revealed the costumes for the characters in this season’s Halloween episode. This teaser gives us a glimpse of them in action, including Annie’s creepy costume and whatever scary shenanigans these guys are getting up to in the episode.

Vague spoilers ahead!

From what we know from the episode description, the group is on the way to a Halloween costume party when they stop at Pierce’s house to help him after he accidentally locks himself in his panic room. They end up wandering through his mansion in search of the book that holds the code to the door. Sounds like a perfect recipe for some amazing Scooby-Doo-like scares and jokes. And we can only imagine what kinds of things Pierce has laying around his mansion.

Community airs Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

Large costume party is busted in Moorhead

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) — A Halloween costume party in Moorhead ended with 58 citations and 18 arrests.

Police responded to a loud party complaint just before midnight. The people inside did not cooperate, so police obtained a search warrant and returned to the house.

They found one person hiding in a dryer, several others under piles of clothes, and some in the attic.

Police say people who host large parties, need to be aware of the risks.

Lt. Tory Jacobson with the Moorhead Police says, “particularly when you’re providing alcohol, it’s difficult to account for everybody, because you’re probably not gonna know everybody that shows up there. And in this case, we did have people all over the neighborhood. One person went into another neighbor’s, house uninvited, at midnight.”

At ten, police explain what people should do, when they have a loud party complaint.
